  1. Sierra,

Wow, what an amazing mission for The Muse Center. Love the connections between the topics you covered for the events you planned and public access. What is one insight you have from this work? What surprised you? What is the most important thing you have taken from this experiences?

    1. One thing that surprised me was how open and willing everyone in the literary and greater Norfolk community is to talk about writing, mental health, race relations, or even just to help me talk about my academic and professional goals. One insight I have taken away from this work has been that community is so integral to any kind of effective programming or discussion and vice versa. If you can bring together the right people, you can produce a really impactful and compelling event.

  2. You’re amazing! Congratulations on this and your new internship with City Lights Booksellers & Publishers!

  3. Sierra,
Thank you for your presentation! This sounds like it was an awesome experience for you. What, if anything, did you find challenging about teaching?

    1. Hi! The most challenging part was definitely keeping teenagers engaged on Zoom, but it wasn’t impossible.

  4. Thank you Sierra! This sounds like a fantastic experience on many fronts. What do you think was the most challenging aspect of teaching, particularly in a remote format?

    1. Hi Dean Sobeck! I think the most challenging aspect of teaching remotely is keeping students engaged and engaging with each other. Including a lot of exercises, asking questions, and calling on folks to share helped overcome this.

  5. Hi Sierra,
Great presentation! It was wonderful to revisit your journey. You did so much during your internship. I hope you are doing well!

  6. Great job on your presentation Sierra! We are very proud of your accomplishments and are looking forward to your bright future!
